Fortuitous week of dance for Mirramu

AS we told you in our arts pages earlier this week, “Fortuity” is a project by Mirramu Dance Company and visiting Taiwanese dancers, celebrating 50 years of contemporary Australian dance in this 50th anniversary year of Australian Dance Theatre, founded by Elizabeth Cameron Dalman in Adelaide on 10 June 1965.

“Fortuity,” the Macquarie Dictionary tells us, means “accident or chance, the act of being accidental or casual,” So as well as a formal production marking the occasion, “Fortuity,” at the Courtyard Studio from May 9 to 17, Mirramu plans to give a foretaste of works from the choreographies of the 60s and 70s that changed the face of dance in Australia in some of our national institutions.

The program is as follows:

Friday 1 May National Library of Australia 1pm

Saturday 2 May National Portrait Gallery 11am and 1pm

Friday 8 May Canberra Theatre Centre foyer 7.30pm

Saturday 9 May National Gallery of Australia 11am and 1pm

Wednesday 13 May Canberra Museum and Gallery 12 noon

Thursday 14 May National Museum of Australia 12 noon

“Fortuity,” at the Courtyard Studio, May 9 to 17, bookings to canberratheatrecentre.com.au or 6275 2700.
