GAMMA.CON coming to the Hellenic Club

WITH conventions like OzComicCon and SupaNova attracting thousands of fans around Australia, Canberra gets its own piece of pop culture action with GAMMA.CON, a locally run event promising to bring all the excitement of movies, games, TV, books, comics and more to the ACT.

It is an all ages events, this year themed on Heroes vs Villains.

It will run on Friday and Saturday May 22-23 and there will be three celebrity guests to run events and mingle with fans.

Gus ‘Goose’ Ronald from ABC’s “Good Game” and “Good Game: Spawn Point” will be on the show floor and taking on GAMMA.CON attendees in a video game themed stage show.

Andy Trieu, star of SBS’ “PopAsia” and Channel 9’s “Kitchen Whiz” will be teaching GAMMA.CON attendees the basics of Asian Pop dance moves and joining Goose for a panel on working in the TV industry.

Internationally renowned cosplayer Katyuska Moonfox will talk on costumes, modelling and conventions to help inspire the fans of Canberra to dress up as their favourite characters.

On the Friday, Sanguineti Media will present the world premier trailer of “Me and My Mates Vs. The Zombie Apocalypse”, a locally produced zombie comedy movie starring comedian Jim Jeffries, YouTube star Alex Williamson and comedy legend Greg Fleet. Following a short Q&A session with the creators there will be a screening of Sanguineti Media’s earlier zombie movie ‘Theatre of the Dead’.

The main stage area will be full of live entertainment including the popular costume competition and the panel room will feature a series presentations. The video gaming area will be packed with a variety of both new and retro games plus the Indie Game Show; a showcase of Canberra developed games!

Also available is a range of table top gaming and a screening room playing a range of Japanese anime, western animation and films produced through a Sci-Fi and Fantasy Short Film Festival.

Tickets can be bought from Impact Comics in Civic, Dee’s Comics in Belconnen or Three D6 in Tuggeranong. They can also be found at www.gammacon.org.au/tickets or bought at the door.
