Gundaroo Drive duplication going out to tender

MICK Gentleman has called on suitably qualified companies to tender for the construction of the Gundaroo Drive stage 1 duplication.

“I’m pleased to announce the next stage in the progression of this significant transport infrastructure project,” Mick said.

“A one kilometre section of Gundaroo Drive from Gungahlin Drive to Mirrabei Drive/Anthony Rolfe Avenue will be duplicated to a dual carriageway.

“On-road cycle lanes will also be provided for the safe passage of cyclists through the two major roundabouts on this section of road.

“Once complete, the duplication will ease congestion, improve safety and support the expected growth of the Gungahlin region including the development of Throsby, Casey, Kenny, Bonner and Moncrieff.

“Duplication of this section of Gundaroo Drive has been prioritised due to accident trends and levels of congestion. The upgrade will also align with the delivery of light rail and will provide additional capacity on the road network whilst the construction of light rail takes place.

“Preliminary works are expected to start later this year following the announcement of the successful tenderer.

“The duplication of a section of Gundaroo Drive is one of several road upgrade projects planned in Gungahlin over the next 12 to 18 months to help cater for its rapidly increasing population, increase safety and build Gungahlin’s integrated transport network,” Minister Gentleman concluded.

Tenders for the construction of the duplication will close on Tuesday 3 November 2015.

Tenders are also currently open for the engagement of a consultant to perform the role of the Principal’s Authorised Person for construction of the Gundaroo stage 1 duplication works. This tender will close on Thursday 15 October 2015.
