Suspicious house blaze in O’Connor

FIREFIGHTERS are working to extinguish a fire in an unoccupied house in O’Connor.

The fire started in the bedroom before spreading to the rest of the house. There has been some fire extension into the roof space.

There is no threat to nearby properties.

ACT Fire & Rescue has three pumpers, the Breathing Apparatus Van and two commanders on scene.

ACT Ambulance Service are also in attendance. No inujuries reported.

Emergency services were called to the house on Myall Street just before 8am.

The fire has been extinguished and firfighters will begin leaving the scene.

The incident will shortly be handed to ACT Policing for further investigation.

Correction: The house was occupied with one man evacuated prior to the arrival of ACT Fire & Rescue.

UPDATE: Police now say the fire is suspicious:

A house fire in O’Connor has been deemed suspicious and handed to ACT Policing for investigation.

About 7.45am this morning (Friday, 27 November) police received a report of a house fire in Myall Street, O’Connor.

ACT Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the fire. There was substantial damage to the house as a result of the fire.

One male was inside the house at the time of the fire. He was not injured.

Police are urging anyone who may have any information on the cause of the fire to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
