Lightning triggers gas fire in O’Connor

FIREFIGHTERS are working to extinguish a gas leak fire on Dryandra Street, O’Connor.

A vehicle hit by lightning above a gas rupture has been moved and ACT Fire & Rescue is working to extinguish a fire from the gas leak that is continuing to re-ignite.

An exclusion zone of 10 houses in all directions has been established as a precaution whilst fire-fighters await for Actew/Agl to isolate the gas.

Fire crews are protecting nearby properties.

The vehicle has been destroyed and nearby bushes have also been scorched.

ACT Ambulance Service is also on scene supporting operations but there are currently no injuries.

Firefighters are continuing to keep the area safe and contain the fire from the gas rupture which is approximately 700mm underground.

Gas contractors are on site working to isolate the gas leak.

The gas leak has been isolated and ACT Fire & Rescue has departed the scene.

The exclusion zone has also been lifted.

Gas contractors will remain on scene to repair the rupture.
