‘New and obscure terrain’: Tom Woodward’s new EP

THAT indefatigable local songwriter, Tom Woodward, tells us he has just released “Chasing Monsters,” an EP of indie classical folk-ballads, exclusively online on Bandcamp.

Woodward is known for his unique picking guitar style fine-tuned by years of busking and takes blues and folk influences into “a new and obscure terrain”.

He’s a follower of genre-defying guitarists like John Fahey and Leo Kottke and overlays his songs with what the calls “hedonistically-inclined lyrics hinting at a sense of potential self-renewal.”

That can only be a g a good thing.

These disparate forms combine to create an unexpected but satisfying collection of styles and sounds.

“Chasing Monsters” is available at http://tomwoodward.bandcamp.com/album/chasing-monsters and will be exclusively sold in hard copy format in Japan, where Woodward intends touring in August.
