ANDREW Barr has announced this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will be headlined by indie pop band Saskwatch and renowned DJ Tigerlily.

“New Years Eve in the city is an important event to many small businesses in the CBD – with the event driving thousands of Canberrans to the area to enjoy the live music and get a great vantage point of the fireworks,” Andrew said.

“Live music lovers can head to Civic Square from 7pm to enjoy an all-ages concert featuring Melbourne six-piece Saskwatch, who have performed at some of the country’s biggest music festivals including Bluesfest, Meredith and Falls.

“Two of the capital’s most popular local bands, Los Chavos and The Advocates, will also entertain crowds with a wide variety of music.

“Bass in the Place will kick off in Garema Place from 9pm with sets by talented local DJs Jake Raven, Hudak and Felixx.

“Tigerlily – best known for her vibrant blue locks and the hit single Paradise – will take over the decks in the lead up to midnight.

“Fireworks Australia will present two state-of-the-art pyrotechnic displays over City Hill at 9pm and midnight, promising to be a highlight of the evening’s entertainment.

“There is something for everyone this New Year’s Eve in the city, so I encourage you to come out and enjoy the free entertainment and party atmosphere.

“Canberra’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in Civic Square and Garema Place are alcohol and glass-free events to ensure a safe and friendly atmosphere.”
