Plans unveiled for The Australia Forum

THE Canberra Business Chamber has unveiled the reference design for the the new convention centre, to be known as “The Australia Forum” which they hope will draw visitors to the ACT.

“The design unveiled today by internationally-renowned architects Fuksas and Guida Moseley Brown is futuristic and classic at the same time,” Canberra Business Chamber CEO Robyn Hendry said.

“This is a building that will be admired for generations to come.

“We are very excited that the design matches the significance of this building. As the capital of Australia, Canberra needs a venue that can attract and host major national and international meetings and is architecturally recognised like our other great institutions, such as Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, the National Museum of Australia, the National Library and the Australian National Gallery.”

“Canberra Business Chamber would like to commend the ACT Government on the process they undertook to develop a reference design for the Australia Forum. The success of this approach is evidenced by the exciting design released today.

“While construction of the Australia Forum is still at the planning phase and cannot become reality without future public and private sector funding, the reference design is an important step forward. We are pleased the ACT Government has supported this project to date and committed funds in the Budget to get the Australia Forum to investment ready stage.”

“Canberra now has an international standard airport. Accommodation supply, particularly of four and five star hotels, has grown in the past two or three years. With the addition of a new convention centre Canberra will be able to claim its place as one of the most attractive capitals in the world.”

“The ACT’s economy and identity as the national capital will be bolstered by the city having a premier convention centre,” Ms Hendry said. “We look forward to continuing to work with the Government, business community and industry to make the Australia Forum a reality.”

UPDATE: More pictures have come in from the designs.
