YEAR 12 Daramalan student Oliver Levi-Malouf has won an award at Worldfest in Houston for his short film, “Magic Man”.

“Magic Man” won a Silver Remi at Worldfest Houston, one of the largest independent film festivals in the world last month. The festival receives over 4,500 entries every year.

“You will hear much more of this young man,” enthuses his long-time drama teacher (and Citynews theatre critic) Joe Woodward, “having worked with him, I must say he is one of the most organised and talented people.” Woodward appears in the 7-minute film.

Daramalan College also today congratulated Levi-Malouf on his achievements and wished him well on his journey after Year 12 in a career in filmmaking.

“Magic Man” is bound for success. It was also one of 19 films in the under-18 FlickerUp section of Flickerfest which screened January 17 at the Bondi Beach indoor theatre.

Levi-Malouf is a two-time finalist in Tropfest Jr, and his other award winning short film, “Penelope’s Penguin” received second prize in the Trop Jr short film category in 2013.

IN “Magic Man” Levi-Malouf tells the story of a man plagued by the guilt of his younger brother’s death. When a series of events tip him over the edge, it takes a kind of magic to bring him back.
