YVETTE Berry has announced Robyn Martin as this year’s ACT Woman of the Year at a ceremony this evening at the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre.

The ACT Senior Woman of the Year was awarded to Robyn Beetham, with Zoya Patel named as this year’s Young Woman of the Year.

“Robyn is a strong voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in the ACT. I would like to congratulate Robyn on this wonderful achievement and for the hard work she does for the women of Canberra,” Yvette said.

“Robyn Beetham has lived and worked in Canberra for over 50 years and is an active volunteer in our community. She is President of the University of the Third Age and runs a current affairs course predominantly attended by women.

“Zoya has been enabling and celebrating the incredible diversity of feminist writers and artists in the ACT through publications, websites and public events. She is editor/founder of Feminartsy and works at the YWCA promoting programs that support the betterment of Canberra women and girls.

“It is a huge privilege to celebrate these remarkable women on the eve of International Women’s Day and I would like to congratulate them all on their wonderful achievements.”

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements as part of International Women’s Day.
