SPOTTED this afternoon on Ainslie Place, just where it turns onto London Circuit is an unusual street sign.
It reads:
RESERVED FOR THE UNFORGIVING MINUTE
It guards a space in which it would be illegal to park.
The last Google StreetView of the locale was in December 2009 at which time the post was there, but un-used.
It appears to be a reference to Kipling’s much loved poem “If” which closes with:
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son.

UPDATE: The mystery has been solved. It appears they are detritus from the You Are Here festival.
