Two new schools for Gungahlin

meeganmeegan

MEEGAN Fitzharris has announced two new schools to be established in north Gungahlin.

Meegan discussed the new schools with Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch at today’s Budget Estimates hearing.

“It was very good to hear Minister Burch provide further details of the new P-6 (preschool to year 6) school to be built in the new north Gungahlin suburb of Taylor by 2019,” she said.

“The school will have three streams and cater for approximately 540 students when fully established.

“Construction of a new high school was also confirmed by the Minister, and a study has been funded to look at the timing and location of the school.

“I know Gungahlin families are excited that a new primary school and a new high school will be built to better meet the needs of students in our region.

“As one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, we need to make sure services keep pace. These two new schools, as confirmed today, will go a long way to meeting the needs of our community.

“Investment in education is so important, and along with the NBN we are also seeing more investment in ICT services in our schools which is helping students prepare for a digital future.

“I thank Minister Burch and the ACT Government for its ongoing commitment to providing high quality services, including schools, to the residents of Gungahlin” Ms Fitzharris said.
