Urgent call to find a dog a home

RSPCA ACT is making an urgent call to the Canberra community to help find Avicii a new family.

The dog has been in RSPCA ACT care for close to four months and yet still hasn’t been able to find a permanent home.

“Avicii is one special and loving dog who has been dealt with an unfortunate circumstance,” a spokesperson said.

“He came into the Weston shelter surrendered by his previous owner due to an Inspectorate case. RSPCA ACT Inspectors attended a house where Avicii was found in very poor living conditions. Avicii was extremely skinny, living in a yard full of faeces and was not provided the appropriate basic care such as shelter, food and water.

“Currently Avicii is at a healthy weight and is happy living with a foster carer though circumstances have changed where he will have to return to the shelter. Unfortunately returning to the shelter will have a negative impact on Avicii’s mental health as he does not cope well in a shelter environment. Outside of the shelter Avicii does not show any ill effect and is a wonderful dog.

“Avicii is an enthusiastic and active dog look for a family to tire him out. Once he has finished his walk he will cuddle up and keep you warm while sitting on the couch together. At times Avicii can be slightly worried so he will need a family who are able to use positive reinforcement training to keep him a happy dog. Avicii is house trained, and enjoys meeting other dogs but his enthusiastic personality might be too much for some.

Avicii would suit an individual, couple or family with older children.

If you are interested or know someone who may be interested in adopting Avicii please call the RSPCA as soon as possible on 02 6287 8100 to organise a meet and greet with this dog.
