Why settle for a tram when you can have a non-stop super express bus?

ALISTAIR Coe says the Barr government’s decision to introduce additional direct bus services from Gungahlin suburbs to the City demonstrates that passengers want a single journey from their house to their destination, rather than having to transfer at interchanges.

“Previously, Crace residents have had to shuttle to the Gungahlin Town Centre and then transfer on to a 200 series bus to get to the City. In the latest change to the network, the concerns of Crace residents have been listened to and they can now get a single bus to the City,” Alistair said.

“ACTION’s decision to remove the need to transfer is in line with the views of the travelling public. Passengers would rather have a single fast and direct services to their destination rather than be forced to hop off and hop on at interchanges or bus stations.

“In contrast to this under light rail, the vast majority of Gungahlin residents will be forced to transfer from a bus to light rail to get to the City. As a result of these transfers, I’m concerned that fewer Gungahlin residents will use public transport once light rail is in operation.

“It’s clear that having to transfer is a disincentive for Canberrans using public transport. This is why the Canberra Liberals have committed to non-stop super express buses and why the government should not proceed with light rail. It will mean further inconvenience for Canberrans using public transport,” Mr Coe concluded.
