MELBOURNE’S Hear My Eyes company is putting a contemporary spin on the in-house cinema organist with its audio-visual pairing of the film “Heartbeats (Les Amours Imaginaires)” by Cannes-awarded Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan with a live score, ’80s analogue synth-pop, performed by Melbourne duo GL – Ella Thompson and Graeme Pogson. “CRASH Test Drama” has been going since 2012, a project where local short plays are given a semi-staged airing. Some of the writers are Angus Algie, Kirsty Budding, Harriet Elvin, Greg Gould, Mary Langdon, John Lombard, Nigel Palfreman and Kate Roediger, and the plays range from outlandish comedy to subtle political satire. “Best of Crash Test” at the Courtyard Studio, 7pm, June 25-26, bookings to canberratheatrecentre.com.au or 6275 2700.

CARTOONIST, painter and more recently sculptor, Stephen Harrison, is about to teach a mysterious drawing and small sculpture-making course at the ANU’s Centre for Continuing Education called “Mythology and Gods in Drawing and Clay”. Followers of his recent work in Sculpture by the Sea, Sculpture in the Paddock and Sculpture in the Street will know of his focus on Shakespeare’s heroes, seen as Apocalyptic horsemen. CANBERRA City Band and the Strange Weather Gospel Choir will jointly stage the Canberra premiere of Eric Whitacre’s “Godzilla Eats Las Vegas” featuring Frank Sinatra, Liberace, a big lizard and an army of Elvises as part of their American music concert. DARRYL’S Den is a go-ahead community studio that provides services and activities to children and adults with disabilities that include art and craft, specialised massage, gym and Tai Chi. They’re holding an Open Day at 80 Beaurepaire Crescent, Holt, from 2pm, on June 26. All welcome.

“THE Young Ones” concert features the youth choristers and solo musicians from All Saints’ Anglican Church on the organ and other instruments. They will be joined by pre-tertiary students from the ANU Open School of Music and a chamber group from Merici College.
