SHANE Rattenbury has announced 30 new scholarship places to support those wishing to begin a career as an early childhood educator.

“Early childhood educators have a vital role in creating a lifelong love of learning and it is essential that we support the workforce to be more qualified,” Shane said.

“These 30 new Certificate III Early Childhood Scholarships offered by the ACT Government are designed for individuals who wish to work in the education and care sector and need the required minimum qualification.

“I recently announced an internal review into early childhood education in the ACT in order to get a better picture of services and qualifications across the sector.

“Qualified and supportive educators are essential to childrens’ positive early learning experiences and these scholarships will help us work towards having a fully qualified sector.

“To those who have a passion for teaching and inspiring the next generation I encourage you to submit an application, good luck,” Mr Rattenbury concluded.

Each scholarship includes funding for:

  • full course fees paid to the Registered Training Organisation delivering the course;
  • a start-up incentive payment of $300;
  • a completion incentive payment of $500; and,
  • benefits to employers for releasing students to study during paid working hours.

To be eligible for a Scholarship, applicants need to:

  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or visa holder with work rights in Australia;
  • demonstrate a commitment to working in the ACT’s education and care sector; and
  • show that they are not eligible for financial support under other ACT or Australian Government training programs.

Applications will open on 29 February 2016 and will close on 25 March 2016. For further information, or to apply, call 62071114 or email ceca@act.gov.au
