At the age of 21 Figueiredo is the winner of a 100 Women of Influence Award in the category of Young Winner, which selects young women who act as catalysts for change.

The awards aim to highlight the role of women’s leadership nationwide and promote females who are fighting for change in their workplaces, their communities and amongst peers.

Caitlin has been recognised for her contribution in initiating positive social change for youth, gender equality and the sustainable development goals on a global scale.

Figueiredo says: “I’m on a mission to create a movement of passion-fuelled youth and leaders banding together to unify our world. I want to use this award to empower every young women and girl[s] around Australia to dream big, to take hold of change and act. If we can inspire more young women and girls to recognise themselves as influencers and come together and work together, we can bring about the change we need.”

Figueiredo became a gender equality activist after surviving years of gender based violence, sexual discrimination, as well as living with severe depression, anxiety and bipolar.

Earlier in 2016, in recognition of her global work, Caitlin was invited to the White House where she was named a global change maker for gender equality by Michelle Obama. Caitlin is also ranked alongside Chelsea Clinton as a Mogul Global Influencer and Ambassador.

The gala awards evening to celebrate winners of the 2016, 100 Women of Influence Award will be held October 27 in Sydney.
