IT’S TIME FOR THE Artists Society of Canberra Annual Member’s annual Spring Exhibition at the Albert Hall.
ACT Minister for Arts, Chris Bourke will be opening the show at 6pm this Wednesday. It features are over 250 works across a diverse range from oils, watercolours, acrylics, drawing, printing, mixed media, and pastels to digital art.
Visitors will be invited to chat with two feature artists over the course of the exhibition at their demonstrations—Peter Griffen a Contemporary from Sydney and Jo Hollier, a respected Canberra printmaker based at Strathnairn.
Griffen will demonstrate his “earth drawings”, showing his special regard for ‘primitive’ art. He hopes to connect with the past and to invent his own coding. He will attempt to indicate how he does this work as well as talk about his overall approach to creating abstract images.
Griffen’s demos will be from 3 – 5 pm on Wednesday and from 10-30 until 12.30 on Thursday. Some of his work will be on display and for sale. Times may be flexible.
Hollier will demonstrate “Collagraph , From Plate to Print,” the art of painterly printmaking
Collagraph is an exciting experimental printmaking method, which offers almost unlimited creative options for the artist with sometimes unpredictable results. Jo will show you how to create plates by building up layers of low-relief patterns with a mix of acrylic modeling media and found, flat objects. In the process she will explain printing inks, papers and other general principals of printmaking.
Hollier’s demos will be on Friday (10.30 am – 1.00 pm), Saturday 3.00- 5.00 pm and Sunday (10.30 – 1.00). Some of Jo’s work will be on display and for sale. Times may be flexible.
Artists Society of Canberra Annual Member’s Spring Exhibition, at the Albert Hall, September 21 – 25.
