Arts in the City / Familiar faces on the ‘Walk of Fame’

ADELAIDE Festival Centre’s announcement of the recipients for its star-studded “Walk of Fame” includes names familiar to Canberrans. Selected by the people of SA from a list of more than 3000 artists who have performed at the Centre since it began in 1973, they include Elizabeth Dalman, Robyn Archer and Meryl Tankard.

LOCAL classical guitarist Matt Withers is one of the nominees for the Freedman Classical Fellowship of 2016. Former fellowship winners include the likes of Genevieve Lacey, William Barton and Joseph Tawadros.

THE Pereira Cello Studio – husband and wife cellists David and Gillian Pereira – is staging a mysterious series called “Bach in the Dark” at 6.30pm on Sunday, June 19, in All Saints Anglican Church, Ainslie. Rachel Scott and David Pereira will play works by JS Bach, Elena Kats-Chernin, David Pereira, Friedrich Dotzauer and others. Bookings via eventbrite.com.au

ARTSOUND FM’s popular Winter Solstice Book and Music Fair will be held at Manuka Arts Centre, corner Manuka Circle and NSW Crescent (next door to Manuka Pool), 9am-4pm, on Sunday, June 19. Books, CDs, DVDs and vinyls, coffee, tea and cake will be on sale.

“EX Libris: Celebrating the Art of the Bookplate” is an exhibition of Megalo members’ print works inspired by the art of the bookplate. It’s at Megalo Print Studio + Gallery, Wentworth Avenue, Kingston, until June 25. It’ll also be part of the Midwinter Megalo Mingle, 4pm-8pm, on Saturday, June 18.

ART Song Canberra’s next concert, “Tchaikovsky Romance”, will be performed by Melbourne artists Rada Tochalna (soprano), Lucas de Jong (baritone) and Janis Cook (piano), at the Wesley Music Centre, 3pm, on Sunday, June 19. No bookings required.

THE 35-year-old Yarralumla Midwinter Show is at the Yarralumla Uniting Church centre, Denman Street, over the weekend of June 24-26. The opening at 6pm, June 24, will be followed by a parade.

IN its fourth year, “Strange Attractor” is a multi-disciplinary dance residency produced by Adelina Larsson and Alison Plevey, that will have provocative artist/producer David Pledger at Gorman Arts Centre facilitating “make – think – speak” lab sessions with artists from Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
