TWO winner’s artworks in this year’s M16 Drawing prize is now on show following the announcement by judges Susan Best and eX de Medici.

The joint winners of the $2500 Beyond Bank prize, this year combined with $2000 from M16’s anonymous donor, were Jay Kochel for his machine drawing “Karesansui 1” and former Canberran, Berenice Carrington, now living in in the Shetland Islands, for “Hair Watch Chain” and “Myosotis”.

The M16 Drawing Prize, for which entries are sought from all over the world, covers drawing in either traditional drawing media or techniques, or non-traditional works that extend understanding of what drawing can be.

M16 staff commented that while Carrington’s work represents an ultra-realistic approach to drawing, Kochel, also known for his gold inflating/deflating installation “AVARICE: auspice” at CMAG this year, had taken a non-traditional path with a detailed machine drawing.

Kellie O’Dempsey from Brisbane won the $1000 CAPO prize for “Retrieving Mickey” while “Shags” (Sharon Gallagher) won the Eckersleys Materials Prize of $500 in materials for “Hurts my teeth” and Dean Cross won the Framing Store prize of $500 Framing for “Full Moon Dreaming” (moonrise over North Arm Cove and Lake Burley Griffin).
