Bach, Gershwin, and a glass of wine

FROM Bach to Gershwin— that’s a pretty broad field in music, and it’s also the title of a piano, organ and song recital coming up this weekend when Czech organist Pavel Kohout, organ, Praha, Republic and Melbourne mezzo-soprano Stefanie Dingnis at Wesley.

You’ll have to move around a bit.

The first part of the concert sees Kohout on the grand organ in Wesley Uniting Church, featuring Bach (Johann Sebastian Bach Toccata in D Minor (Dorian) BWV 538 plus Brandenburg Concerto Nr. 3, BWV 1048. (transcription), and Petr Eben (Song of Ruth).

The second part is in the Wesley Music Room, starting with a Chopin nocturne (Nocturno in b – Minor, Op. 9, No. 1) followed by the classical jazz of George Gershwin, Arthur Hamilton, Harold Arlen and Bart Howard.

It’s even suggested that patrons might enjoy a glass of wine with the Gershwin.
