ACT Policing are warning that more than 2,000 motorcycle riders will descend on Canberra tomorrow (Saturday, September 17) as part of the national Wall to Wall Ride for Remembrance.
The Wall to Wall Ride for Remembrance is held each September in the lead up to National Police Remembrance Day on September 29. The ride is held in honour and remembrance of those fallen police officers who have died in the line of duty. It also aims to raise funds for police legacies across Australia while promoting safe and lawful motorcycling.
Riders from all States and Territories will converge with ACT Policing members at the Exhibition Park in Canberra, before travelling to their final destination at the National Police Memorial in Kings Park where a ceremony honouring our fallen officers will be held at 4pm.
Traffic disruptions are expected along the route.
The southbound lanes of the Federal Highway will be closed between Antill Street and Flemington Road from 2pm to 3.45pm.
Both lanes at Wendouree Drive will be closed between Kings Avenue and the footpath crossing at Wendouree Drive by Blundell’s Cottage from 8am and 5pm.
There will also be rolling road closures for the following roads:
- Northbourne Avenue (southbound lanes)
- Commonwealth Avenue (southbound lanes)
- Parliament Drive
- Kings Avenue (northbound lanes).
Intersections along these roads will be subject to temporary road closures to allow the convoy to pass. Once the convoy has passed at a safe distance, the intersections will reopen. Delays of approximately 15 minutes are expected.
Barriers as well as warning and diversion signs will be erected to alert people of the closures.
