EVER wondered ‘what bird is that’ when looking up to the sky? The Birdwatching for Beginners short course at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands is a sure way to help identify some of Canberra’s many diverse and interesting bird species as well as the bird calls that we often hear.

“Tomorrow there is an opportunity to learn the basics of bird watching in one ofCanberra’s picturesque locations,” Program Manager, Woodlands and Wetlands Trust, Lori Gould said.

“The Canberra Ornithologists Group will conduct the training which consists of one hour in the education centre followed by some hands-on practical experience in the wetlands. The tour will be the first bird watching course at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands. The small group tours provide a great opportunity for people to explore the unique surroundings of the wetlands, enjoy expert tuition, ask questions and meet like-minded people.

“The Jerrabomberra Wetlands is a wonderful location for the tour. Up to 200 bird species have been spotted in the wetlands over the years that are also home to the platypus, turtles and other native wildlife.

“Tour participants should bring along a pair of binoculars as part of the workshop is learning how to properly use binoculars. There are some binoculars available for those that do not have access to any.”

The Birdwatching for Beginners short course will run from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, Saturday 28 May 2016 at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands. The cost for the course is $35 and morning tea will be provided. For more information visit jerrabomberrawetlands.org
