Bus drivers downing tools tomorrow

ACTING Director of Public Transport Ian McGlinn is warning Canberrans that ACTION bus services will be temporarily disrupted tomorrow to allow for a meeting of all drivers.

“From 10 am to 2 pm tomorrow there will be no ACTION bus services in operation,” Ian said.

“During this time our drivers will attend a meeting with the Transport Workers Union (TWU) to be briefed on and vote on new shift arrangements.

“To allow our drivers to come off the road for the meeting in the morning and for services to start back up in the afternoon, there will also be limited bus services available from 9:30 am to 10 am and 2 pm to 2:30 pm.

“The meeting with drivers has been scheduled outside peak travel times to minimise inconvenience to our customers. School and special needs services, including the Flexible Bus Service, will not be affected.

“Notices will be put on display in each of the major bus stations to notify passengers of the disruptions. Staff will also be at the major stations on Tuesday reminding people of the disruption to services.

“Customers should plan ahead and avoid travel between the hours of disruption to prevent any inconvenience on Tuesday. ACTION apologises for this disruption and thanks the Canberra community for their understanding and cooperation.
