Capital Metro / Let the people speak says Coe

capital metro

ALISTAIR Coe says the ACT Government should respect their citizens by allowing the people of Canberra to decide whether light rail happens or not.

“Light rail is an issue which has divided the city and only the election in October will provide the definitive direction on the project,” Alistair said.

“Even the Government’s own research states that Canberrans are split on the issue.

“Whilst the Government may claim to have a mandate on this issue, only a $30 million engineering study was taken to the 2012 election. No voters knew any of the details that we now know about this project.

“If the Government signs contracts which includes a contract termination fee, Andrew Barr and his Government will be trying to hold Canberrans for ransom at the next election.

“Canberra has waited 113 years for light rail, surely we can wait another few short months.

“The fair and responsible way forward is to allow the people of Canberra to determine the fate of light rail at the next election,” concluded Mr Coe.
