AWARD-winning BentSpoke Brewing has converted a Mitchell warehouse into a brewery and canning facility allowing the company to offer its canned product in supermarkets, bottleshops, venues, and restaurants.

Head brewer and owner Richard Watkins says: “We’re proud to have invested in the local community to make it easier for Canberrans to enjoy our beer anywhere, anytime and anyhow.

“The new facility, with 30,000 litres of fermentation capacity is certainly the largest brewery Canberra has ever seen, and will be one of the largest independent breweries in Australia. And in another few months we will be stepping that up to 50,000 litres.”

He says cans offer some major advantages over bottles in that they are impervious to light, particularly UV rays which destroy hop oils, meaning the beer arrives in the best possible condition.

Bentspoke’s launch range of canned beers includes its best selling Crankshaft IPA and the multiple medal-winning Barley Griffin Pale Ale.

During Canberra Beer Week, BentSpoke is opening the cannery at 61-67 Lysaght Street, Mitchell, to the public, 11am-6pm, on November 6.
