Shane was selected as ACT Australian Apprentice of the Year in September which made him eligible to attend the Australian Training Awards in Darwin last night (November 18).

CIT CEO Leanne Cover says: “CIT could not be more proud to have trained Australian’s top apprentice. It’s wonderful to see Shane’s hard work and commitment to learning rewarded with this significant Australian Government award.

“Warm congratulations to Shane, and the teachers and employers that have guided and supported him throughout his training. Special thanks to Algoa Holdings Shane’s apprentice employer.”

Shane enrolled at CIT in 2013 to study carpentry and building construction.

A highlight of Shane’s apprenticeship was working for Eco Blue Constructions on a six-star energy efficient home which later featured on television program Grand Designs Australia.

Shane says the project exposed him to new, sustainable construction techniques that will likely become common features of building designs.

In June, Shane began work experience with ACT Metropolitan Building Certifiers and hopes to apply for cadetships in the coming year.
