Here comes Canberra Beer Week

THE local craft beer scene has launched this year’s Canberra Beer Week program.

Now in its fourth year, the event has grown from seven to ten days to accommodate nearly 40 events held across the ACT ranging from Meet the Brewers, to beer and food degustations, to tap takeovers.

“The goal of Canberra Beer Week is to bring great beer to new audiences” said president of the newly formed Beer ACT, Anthony Young.

“With the support of our fabulous Canberra-based breweries, bottleshops and venues dedicated to showcasing the very best of Australian and International breweries, we believe we can do just that.

“The program’s flagship event, Beer Day Out welcomes over 25 Australian and International craft breweries to Thoroughbred Park on Saturday 5 November with live music, beer cooking masterclasses with the likes of Paul Mercurio and Kirrily Waldhorn, roving entertainment, and more than 150 beers and ciders to sample. New to the festival this year is the Beer Day Out Festival Bar featuring special release beers from every brewery in attendance.

“From 3 – 13 November, more than 21 participating venues across the city will showcase beers and ciders from some of the best breweries in Australia, New Zealand, USA and the UK. There are Beer Week Headquarters in the north at Gold Creek’s George Harcourt Inn, the south at Kingston’s Durham Castle Arms, and the Central HQ at Braddon’s BentSpoke Brewing Company, all with an array of activities happening throughout the 10-day period.”

“Highlights of the program include the grand final of Old Canberra Inn’s long running ‘Battle of the Brewers’, a British tap Invasion at the George Harcourt Inn, and the opening of the BentSpoke Cannery in Mitchell. The full program and online ticketing for all events can be found at canberrabeerweek.com.

Canberra Beer Week is presented by the newly incorporated Beer ACT, a cooperative of ACT region breweries, venues and bottleshops dedicated to the promotion and education of good and locally made beer and cider to the people.
