STEVE Doszpot says the Barr government needs to guarantee that seniors who are already struggling with cost of living pressures won’t be further impacted by flagged cuts to concessions to fund light rail.
“Andrew Barr has indicated major cuts to concessions that many seniors in our community rely on, particularly with cost of living increases year on year. The cuts look blatantly like a cash grab for light rail,” Steve said.
“Today in the Assembly I’ll be calling on the government to clarify the uncertainty about changes to the ACT Concessions Program and acknowledge the concerns across Canberra, particularly in the senior community.
“Consultation on a discussion paper into the Program only ended last week. Three days later Andrew Barr announced cuts, most probably with little or no consideration of community feedback.
“Seniors who rely on a fixed income have to deal with cost of living increases year after year after year. Andrew Barr should recognise this and make sure those who are struggling aren’t hits with cuts to fund light rail,” Mr Doszpot concluded.
