STRATHNAIRN Homestead Galleries One + Two will be the setting for the EASS 2016 Emerging Artist Support Scheme Award Winners Exhibition, opening officially tomorrow.

This year’s EASS exhibition includes work in range of mediums from sculptor Sian Watson, painters Christine Ramsey and Kirrily Humphries and ceramicist Sue Hewat.

You have to question the term ‘emerging’ when it comes to these artists, already very well known in this region.

Humphries explores the ephemeral nature of the built environment.   Her finely detailed paintings consider what they may reveal about the nature of our relationship with objects and environments we construct.

She is a 2016 Honours (Painting) candidate at the ANU School of Art and recipient of the Sir Geoffrey Yeend Honours Scholarship. In 2014 she was awarded the Westende Travelling Scholarship, facilitating her exchange to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.

Watson, already a prize-winner, has fused the human and bird form ‘to equalise venerability’ and has removed agency and ability by taking away limbs and questioning the relationships humans have with animals.

Hewat is a ceramic artist with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) the ANU School of Art. She was the recipient of the Strathnairn Arts – Anita McIntyre Award for Ceramics, Residency and Exhibition Award and has had the use of a studio at Strathnairn Arts.

Ramsey’s work at Strathnairn is an environmental exploration of coastal escapes and beauties from nature.

Well on the way, all of them!
