Every child to get a tablet device under Labor

ANDREW Barr says every student in every public college and high school will receive a tablet device to help them learn under a re-elected ACT Labor Government.

“ACT Labor has always prioritised our local education system – which is why it is one of the best education systems in the country,” Android said.

“Giving our students access to this technology will make it even better.

“Technology is changing the way our students learn. Tablets and notebooks are increasingly essential tools in schools today.

“ACT Labor believes every Canberran deserves the best quality education to get the most out of life. Education has the power to break down barriers, improve social equity and make sure people lead happy and fulfilling lives.

“This game-changing $17.2 million education plan will put cutting-edge technology into the hands of every Canberra public school student, regardless of their background or how much their parents earn. In the first year of roll-out in 2018 it is estimated more than 6,000 Canberra students would be provided tablet devices.

“Consistency of devices across all schools will not only provide equity between students, but also provide a consistent platform for education applications, enhancing the curriculum and making life easier for teachers.

“This commitment will save many parents the stress of saving for these devices and mean there’s no need to worry about choosing the right one for their children.

“Tablet devices will be provided to each new Year 7 and Year 11 student every year. This policy is forward-looking and embraces the technology of the 21st century while building on Labor’s strong overall record of investment in our schools. Under Labor, every public school now has access to high-speed Wi-Fi and this is the next logical step in technology investment for our students.”
