APPLICATIONS for the next ACT Fire & Rescue recruit college have opened today with a large number of applicants expected to put their names forward.

“All women and men, who are fit, community minded, love team work and looking for a unique challenge should consider a rewarding career in fire fighting,” ACTF&R Chief Officer Mark Brown said.

“There are sixteen positions on offer in this recruitment round with hopes of filling half of those with women, as part of our Women in Emergency Services Strategy.

“The ACT Government announced in November last year that ACTF&R aims to boost the numbers of female firefighters in the ACT.

The ESA has embarked on an extensive marketing campaign designed to make women aware of the exciting career opportunities on offer.

“This included a number of come and try sessions for potential applicants which were all fully booked well in advance. A team also visited Dubbo, Orange and Wagga in regional NSW to deliver information sessions for those interested in applying to become a firefighter in the ACT.

“We strongly encourage women to apply to join ACTF&R.

“Interested applicants can prepare for the recruitment process by going to the ESA website. It contains all the information you need to know about how to apply and what to do to get ready for the process it includes an information guide, fitness training advice and a specially produced video of the different types of physical aptitude tests candidates will have to undertake to demonstrate the necessary standards as part of the recruitment process.”

Applications close 14 February with the 2016 recruit college expected to commence in June. For more information go to the ESA website esa.act.gov.au and click on the #Be_a_firefighter link.
