CANBERRA’s all-girl teenage indie/alternative rock band “Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers” have just launched a provocative music video called “Crime Scene” and it’s up on YouTube now.
The director/cinematographer who shot the video, Graham Gall from Jarbo Productions, says: “These 15 yrs old girls are not only very talented, they are prepared to make a strong statement about issues surrounding domestic violence, particularly as it affects teenagers in the home situation.”
The songwriter Scarlett McKahey says: “Our music comes ?rst, of course, but if we can raise awareness for issues such as domestic violence, through our music, that?s a bonus for us. We want to help with these major issues in whatever way we can.”
“Crime Scene” has done well on Radio 2JJJ’s “Unearthed”, where it has a 4-star rating, has had 2,000 plays and has been downloaded over 250 times.
Gall says he was was very happy to pitch a music video concept to the girls as he feels they deserve wider recognition for their very strong song writing, instrumental competence and vocal
“They are very professional, competent musicians and deliver in spades every time they perform. And in addition they are really nice, well rounded young ladies who are brilliant role models for their peers.”
The ?ctional “narrative” video footage supporting the girls musical performance was shot with several Canberra actors to explore domestic violence and teen homelessness.
The lead role in the video is performed by Taylor Tarnawskyj and students from Orana Steiner School in Weston, including Anna Ryan, Scarlett McKahey, Pip Gazard, Jaida Stephenson, and Neve van Boxsel.
