Hannah Wandel flying the flag for the ACT at the RIRDC Women’s Award

HANNAH Wandel has been announced as the only Canberra finalist in the 2016 NSW/ACT Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation Rural Women’s Award.

Hannah was nominated for her work as the Founder and CEO of non-profitorganisation, Country to Canberra, as well as her new idea to up-skill young women in rural Australian schools.

She is the first ACT finalist in the award’s 16-year history.

“If I won the award I would establish Project Empower, which is a leadership workshop series for Year 9 and 10 rural girls,” Hannah said.

“Project Empower would build leadership skills in young women and educate them about careers in primary industries, which would ultimately strengthen rural communities.”

Hannah joins three other finalists from New South Wales: Sophie Hansen from Orange, Fiona Mead from Narrabri and Aimee Snowden from Tocumwal.

The esteemed group of female leaders are vying for a $10,000 bursary from the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

“I’m incredibly honoured to be flying the flag for the ACT and hope to do my community proud,” Ms Wandel said.

The winner of the NSW/ACT Rural Women’s Award will be announced on 8 March 2016 at Parliament House in Sydney.

The winner will then compete for the National RIRDC Rural Women’s Award later in 2016.
