Kambah, Cook and Rivett shops to get upgrades

MEEGAN Fitzharris says work has started on a series of upgrades at Cook, Rivett and Kambah (Mannheim Street) local shopping centres to enhance the character of our suburbs.

“These latest shopping centre upgrades will see a range of upgrades implemented, including improved lighting along footpaths, better access to bus stops, new public space seating, bicycle racks, and additional parking spaces for people with disability.

“The $1.76 million upgrades at Kambah, Cook and Rivett are part of the ACT Government’s work to ensure our suburbs are renewed, so Canberra continues to be the world’s most liveable city.

“Local shopping centres are really wonderful places to shop, meet friends and enjoy our open space. By visiting your local shops you support local jobs and make connections to your community.

“As the new Transport and Municipal Services Minister I am keen to continue the ACT Government’s great work and investment in local shopping centres across the ACT.

“These works will improve the facilities at Cook, Kambah and Rivett and have been designed in consultation with the local traders. It’s great to see them now underway.”

Cook

The $850,000 improvements to the Cook shopping centre at Cook Place will include:

  • Increased open space for gatherings as well as outdoor dining;
  • Better access from the bus stop and surrounding streets with new pathways and ramps;
  • Reduced trip hazards;
  • Improved lighting along footpaths and the main car park;
  • An additional parking space for people with a disability, compliant to current standards; and
  • New public space furniture, a drinking fountain and upgraded landscaping.

Rivett

Rivett shopping centre on Rivett Place will include $360,000 of works that will provide:
