Kite flying raises hope for recovering alcohol and drug users

THIS weekend Canberrans are invited to fly a kite on the lawns next to Questacon in celebration of the 40 years Karralika has supported families recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. unnamed-1_1

With one in five ACT residents currently consuming alcohol levels that will lead them to lifetime harm, the Karralika Community Fun Day aims to raise awareness of the not-for-profit organisation which helps families choose a better life.

CEO of Karralika Programs, Sharon Tuffin says this event will celebrate the strength and tenacity of individuals and families who are making positive changes in their lives.

Tuffin says: “Kites for Karralika will be an opportunity to connect with community and to publicly acknowledge the dedication and support provided by the Karralika team over the years in helping families choose a better life.

“We also want to offer encouragement to those who have not yet taken that first step on their road to recovery.”

During the celebrations on Saturday (November 26) people will have access to food stalls, activities for kids and live entertainment, including Guyy & The Fox and Australian National Busking Champion Lucy Sugarman.

Tuffin says: “We’re encouraging all Canberrans to come along and fly a kite to raise hope.”

With a gold coin donation, children will receive a kite that can be flown on the day.
