Letters / Jobs for the boys?

MR Barr, can someone perhaps advise how a $300,000 job can be created, advertised, an office furnished, staff hired and the position filled within a week?

quillAnd that’s some handle – commissioner for international engagement – were the position for Australia not the ACT.

And does this include your personal agendas?

Who were the other applicants, Mr Barr? Has equality been lost here? It appears to be a get rid of the Opposition by stealth by creating overpaid jobs for the boys with no scruples or loyalty.

Show good faith, CSIRO

HAVING attended the most recent round of “consultation” on the CSIRO Ginninderra Field station site, a lot more questions were raised than answered.

It appears that the brief for selecting a developer is currently with the Federal minister. The ACT government will find out who that is along with the rest of the community.

If the CSIRO wishes to claim that it is dealing with ACT residents in good faith, they should ask the Commonwealth to revoke National Land status on the site immediately. This is the only way to guarantee that ACT residents and our democratically elected ACT government have genuine input into the outcomes.

Kim Fischer,

ACT Labor candidate for Ginninderra

Prevention not discrimination

SONIA Kruger’s suggestion that Muslims should be banned temporarily from entering Australia can help us understand that discrimination can be mistaken for prudent prevention.

Discrimination is not always negative. Not long ago, persons between 18 and 30 years claimed they were being discriminated against by the police for speeding and other road offences. But when it was revealed that age group had a much higher road-death statistic than other age groups, the allegation virtually ceased.

An argument could be made not to allow entry to Muslims until terrorist attacks stop – a case of primary prevention, not discrimination.
