Letters / When Giulia went to Sweden

IN response to the letter from Rewa Bate (CN, November 8) disputing John Griffiths’ view that Giulia Jones was a “Liberal Party loser”, I am afraid I have to agree with John.

quillWhen Jones decided to take a staff member with her, when first elected as an MLA, to one of the most expensive countries on the planet (Sweden) to study prostitution, she lost me as a potential supporter even though she lives just around the corner.

And the fact that Vicki Dunne did the same, although taking her spouse instead, did little to raise either of them in my estimation. They should have spent time studying issues such as youth homelessness, suicide, mental health and affordable housing, which are far more important and relevant issues in Canberra.

Lust for power
THE Australian body politic is suffering from a lust for power, greed and even personal hatreds.

These negatives have caused blockages in the main decision-making arteries in the heart of our parliament.

Installation of electoral stents over the last seven years have not resolved the problem. Although self-prescribing is a medical no-no, it can be said with certainty that with our parliament at risk of an infarct, honesty, integrity, and goodwill must be so used as anticoagulants.
