Hear, hear. My Campbell neighbours and I are also grumpy about “Where the sun doesn’t shine”, Grumpy column (CN, April 28).
We, too, have a yard shaded all winter by a gum tree as tall as a Northbourne Avenue tree. It towers over the power lines and fence lines of all four neighbours and we all want it gone.
It has wire cables that try to hold the branches back from the power lines. The ACT Labor government prevents it from being removed, which even the owners want. We would happily plant five trees in the bushland 100m behind us to replace it.
As a Liberal Party candidate in the October local Canberra election for Kurrajong, once elected I will happily move to solve this grumpy issue. Until then it is grumpy where the sun doesn’t shine.
Brooke Curtin, Liberal candidate for Kurrajong
Really, it’s effing annoying!
I AGREE with Grumpy columnist M McGregor (CN, May 5) regarding the overuse of the word “y’know”.
But it’s the constant over and over and overuse of the “F” word that gets my goat.
From kids to teens to adults this four-letter word has replaced the way most people voice themselves these days. It’s now become boring and repetitive and used by those who don’t or can’t come up with a more appropriate or informative word to use.
