OUR SPIES tell us that at last week’s session of M16 Artspace’s “Confident Collecting” series, over 70 people turned up out of an expected 30 to hear collectors Johnathan Efkarpidis, Susan Taylor and Peter Jones chat with curators Michael Desmond and Deborah Hart from the NGA.
“Not bad for a cold winter’s night in Canberra” says M16 chair Vasiliki Nihas. There are another 3 three sessions to come:
June 6: Exploring Indigenous and Abstract Art
Your every question answered about Indigenous Art and Abstract Art by the most knowledgeable and entertaining experts on these subjects that you will come across. Want to buy art? Just want to understand it so you come across impressively at dinner parties?! Come share wine and nibbles as you hear independent researcher and curator Wally Caruana, formerly at the NGA and Terence Maloon, Director of the Drill Hall Gallery. Engage in an interactive session with some of the most respected arts thinkers in the country, not to mention the best ever adventure stories on collecting!
June 20: Understanding Taste and Ethical Collecting.
Ever thought: I know what art I like, but why do I like it? Is my taste in my shoes and will I still like it in 20 years time?! Come join us over a glass of wine and nibbles as we unravel the mysteries of taste and buying in today’s art market. Come talk to Canberra’s finest curators, gallerists and dedicated collectors. For this session we will be joined by Susie Beaver, Neil Hobbs and Karina Harris and Nancy Sever. Session to be moderated by Gordon Bull from ANU School of Art.
June 27: Prints and Photography as entry points into affordable collecting
Have you looked at a beautiful print and thought, what do those numbers tell me about it? What’s the difference between a print and an original? Not to mention a great photocopy! Know your way around an etching? Or was that a monotype, linocut or engraving? Photography and prints are a great way to purchase the hottest new talents without breaking the budget…but who are they and where do I find them? Join us over a warming red for the last in the series of Confident Collecting at m16Artspace. In this session we are privileged to ask our questions of some of the most respected art minds in town, CMAG senior curator of Visual Arts, Deborah Clark, Gordon Bull from the ANU School of Art and Dr Shaune Lakin, Senior Curator of Photography at the NGA.
“Confident Collecting” series, sessional tickets are still available at the $30 concession rate on http://Eventbrite.com.au for your readers/listeners.
