A CANBERRA man faces court this morning (November 28) allegedly charged with the “choke, suffocate or strangle” of a person.
He also faces charges of forcible confinement, three counts of common assault and two charges of damage to property.
Legislation was changed last year to better protect victims who have been strangled.
Detective acting sergeant of ACT policing’s family violence team, Jason Taylor says victim safety and offender accountability is at the core of ACT Policing’s focus on family violence.
Taylor says: “To choke, suffocate or strangle another person, whether or not you render that person unconscious, is an incredibly serious offence and police will respond accordingly.”
