Markus Gibson-Huck remembered in memorial seat

ONE OF Canberra’s most influential givers has been honoured in a ceremony at Bowen Park.

Friends and colleagues of the Brassey Hotel’s sales and marketing director Markus Gibson-Huck attended a ceremony where Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly, Vicki Dunne,  dedicated a seat to his memory.

The late Mr Gibson-Huck died in January 2015 aged 55, after a life of generosity and dedicated volunteering.

Well-known for his work in promoting Canberra, he was a keen supporter of racing and polo, but was also involved with many Canberra cultural and charitable organisations.

He was a board member of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation JDRF, which held  memorial fundraisers  in his name  in 2015 and 2016, a board member for  Karinya House,  Australian National Capital Artists & Women in Racing and as a volunteer with Pegasus Riding for the Disabled and  the Veterans Nursing Home.

Mr Gibson-Huck’s personal interests as a sponsor and ‘friend’ extended to the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery, the Australian War Memorial, the National Library of Australia and the Canberra Symphony Orchestra.

His former involvement with the Canberra Tourism has been marked with an award set up in his honour, The Young Achievers Scholarship.
