Movember’s growing concern for men

FORTY-six per cent of men who had been through a stressful life event, such as a relationship breakdown or sudden job loss, experienced suicidal thoughts or behaviours in the last year, accoring to new research.

The study covered more than 10,000 men and women in Australia, NZ, Canada, the UK and the US was commissioned locally by the Movember Foundation.

Foundation co-founder Adam Garone says:  “The results of the survey across the five countries exposes the magnitude of men’s vulnerability when dealing with particular crisis points in life. Men take their own lives at three times the rate of women.

“We know that these are times when exercise, good sleep, talking, expert advice, staying connected with friends, and the support of loved ones are vital for coping and can reduce the impact on a man’s health and wellbeing.”

The Movember Foundation supports men with mental health by encouraging them to take action early through suicide prevention programs.
