National Library of Australia receives funding boost

THE Turnbull Government has revealed that the National Library of Australia will receive a $16.4 million funding boost as part of the 2016-17 Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook. national library

Senator for the ACT, Zed Seselja says this funding announcement that will support the NLA in its delivery of a range of programs and services, including the online database Trove, over a four year period.

The Trove search engine accesses a wide range of resources about Australia and Australians. It features content from more than 1000 libraries, cultural and education institutions in Australia.

Seselja says since its launch in 2009, Trove has become a fundamental piece of our national research infrastructure, providing widespread access to museum pieces and documents.

There is an average of 57,000 visits to the Trove website every day.

This funding will enable the NLA to add to the collection of digital material available on Trove. It will also be used to upgrade critical information technology infrastructure and to support other vital programs and services.
