CANBERRA CBD Limited has announced four new appointments to its board. The new members are James Service, Michael Heather, Damien Maher and Dan Stewart.

“The Canberra CBD Board of Directors is moving forward into a period of renewal, with the decision to appoint four new board members a direct result of a Special General Meeting,” a spokesperson said.

“The board of directors own, or are the agents or representatives, of over 600 commercial buildings in Civic and Braddon. Their decision-making focuses on what will improve the economic and social health of Canberra’s commercial heart.

“Each year the company delivers, sponsors and promotes over 20 events, adds to visitors’ experiences with decorative lighting, flowers, street art and buildings cleaned from tagging. The business is proud to provide the community parks at West Row and Heather and Arthur Shakespeare Square and the legacy of the Centenary Column and its Time Capsule of 100 stories to be opened in 100 years’ time.

“Canberra CBD Limited’s Board of Directors also work and partner with government to improve planning, development, tourism and cleaning issues in a rapidly expanding and changing city centre. They also regularly converse with other industry and community groups.

‘I’m pleased that we have been able to assemble an exceptional group of people that together brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in property, business and city planning, and investing and trading in Canberra,’ said Chairman Tony Hedley.

The newly appointed board members will join current board members Eleni Notaras, Amanda Paradiso, George Katheklakis, Peter Barclay, Adam Howarth and Chairman Tony Hedley.

Established in 2007, Canberra CBD Limited has been led by an exceptional group of dedicated volunteers. Canberra CBD Limited has had 18 board members since establishment.

“I want to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution of past board members, many of them have more than five years’ service on the Board during which the organisation has gone from strength to strength. The first chairman Emmanuel Notaras resigned last year after eight years of growing the business,” said Mr Hedley.

Canberra CBD’s Board of Directors represent the broad range of both large and small commercial property owners, as well as the geographic spread of the City Improvements and Marketing Levy collection area in Civic and Braddon.

Additionally, the City Activations Unit in the ACT Government has an observer at the monthly meetings.

The new appointments will take effect from April 19, 2016 and are subject to the normal Annual General Meeting process in November, whereby several members have to step aside and offer themselves for re-election.
