THERE was a time when the former members of the Doug Anthony All Stars were content with busking around Civic or hanging out with their mates in a group house at Waramanga.

But time changes everything, and now all three of the old DAAS have turned into pillars of the community, with Richard Fidler a respected host of “Conversations” for ABC radio, Paul McDermott the patron of the Capital Arts Patrons Organisation are now in an announcement today, Tim Ferguson becoming patron of Music for Canberra.

Ferguson might be seen by most as a comedian more than a musician, but he has certainly become well-known for his professional and charitable work and what could be more professional or charitable than helping bright young people develop their talents.

Kathleen Grant, CEO and artist director at MFE naturally says: “We are extraordinarily proud to announce Canberra’s favourite son Tim Ferguson as inaugural patron of Music for Canberra.”

Grant points out that as well as being a comedian Ferguson is also an accomplished writer, teacher and an advocate for inclusion.

“If you thought Music For Canberra was fun before, we are about to level up!”

It is believed that the organisation will welcome Ferguson at an official function this Thursday.
