police

THREE men have been charged with trespass and property damage offences after they were located on the roof of a Fyshwick business last night (Friday, 14 October).

About 11.20pm police received a report from members of the public that three males were acting suspiciously around businesses in Ipswich Street.

Police attended and located three males on the roof of Homemakers Fyshwick.

With assistance from ACT Fire & Rescue, the offenders were removed from the roof and were found to have a large number of spray paint cans in their possession.

A 22-year-old Chifley man, 24-year-old Hughes man and a 41-year-old Gilmore man were arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House and will face court at a later date.

Superintendent Stephen Turnbull said police take vandalism and graffiti very seriously.

“Graffiti causes many individuals in our community a lot of anguish, particularly when their private property or business premises have been affected.”

“The public are our eyes and ears in the community. If you see someone acting suspiciously, particularly if you come across a person in the act of committing this type of vandalism, report it to police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
