SHANE Rattenbury says student enrolments in Canberra public schools continue to grow according to the recently released Canberra Public Schools Census – August 2016.

“The August 2016 census for Canberra public schools reported a steady increase in school enrolments compared with previous August census figures from 2012 onwards,” Shane said.

“I am pleased to see the sustained growth in enrolments across our public primary, high and college sectors since 2012.

“At the August 2016 census, there were 44,917 students enrolled in our public schools, an increase of 4,791 students or 11.9% since August 2012. It is also an increase of 1,401 students or 3.2% from 2015. The growth in public school enrolments is higher than the recent growth in school age population of 1.4% per year.

“More and more Canberra parents are choosing to send their children to public school with the confidence they will receive high quality education from kindergarten through to year 12.”

The August 2016 census was conducted on Friday 5 August 2016. The full report can be viewed by visiting education.act.gov.au
