THE ACT Government is advising motorists and other road users that the southern section of Mort Street car park, from the Elouera Street roundabout for approximately 65 metres north, will be closed between 9 am Thursday 17 March and 5 pm Wednesday 23 March 2016.
The closure will allow for excavation works to retrieve a large broken drill head from underground rock where it became lodged during construction work.
Approximately 15 parking spaces and one motorcycle parking bay will be affected during these works, while the northern section of the cark park will remain open.
The car park will re-open to the public again when excavation works are complete.
Signage will be on site to alert motorists to the closure.

UPDATE: Word reaches us that work is ahead of schedule:
The ACT Government wishes to advise motorists and other road users that nine out of 15 parking spaces and a motorcycle parking bay at a Mort Street car park have re-opened following their closure yesterday, Wednesday 16 March 2016.
The closure at the Elouera Street roundabout was to allow for a broken drill head to be retrieved from rock approximately 3.5 metres underground, and was originally expected to reopen on Wednesday 23 March 2016.
The contractors responsible for the work decided it was not practical to remove the drill head upon identifying what work would need to be undertaken. The boring machine has now been dismantled from the drill head, which remains underground, and the hole has been filled and compacted.
Six parking spaces remain closed while the contractors work to install underground services in the area. These parking spaces are on track to re-open by 5 pm, Friday 18 March 2016
