Review / ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’ (M) no stars

zac-efron-and-anna-kendrick-are-in-a-hilarious-trailer-for-mike-and-dave-need-wedding-dates_1SOME may consider that Jake Szymanski’s film, in which two brothers (played by Zac Efron and Adam DeVine) and the pair of scrubbers (played by Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza) whom they invite, without evaluation of suitability, to accompany them to their sister’s wedding in Hawaii, is blessed with a talented cast, attractive locations and a plot with a credible core.

But no matter how those basics shape up, unless the situations wrapped around that credible core convince us that they too are credible and the characters have merit, the result is mush, rubbish, dross, a waste of time and ticket money.

The screenplay by Andrew Cohen and Brendan O’Brien deposits the film slap-bang on a pile of fresh cow-flop. Its implementation of a possibly amusing plot is stupid. Its characters behave stupidly, defy commonsense and refuse to learn from their mistakes. If that undiminished evaluation doesn’t warn you, by all means go and see it. The film overall is very not intelligent.
